How to Love Your Spine on Valentine’s

by | Feb 4, 2020 | Back Pain

Valentine’s Day is once again nearly upon us and no doubt many of us are thinking about what to get or do for our loved ones as normal. There is something else that needs loving though and this goes for anyone single or in a relationship. We all have them, and that’s our backs. We should certainly love our backs at any time of the year, but with Valentine’s coming up, we thought it would be good to give you a nudge to love your spine.

So what do we mean?

Our backs do take a lot of punishment during our lifetime. Our work, play, accidents and even gravity can put added stress to our backs. Even as we age, natural dysfunction or degeneration is also an issue, so we do need to take good care of them. So how?

Regular Exercise

Stretches and exercises to help decompress your spine is a very good way of helping. Stretching activities such as yoga can really help your back. You can check out some great exercises here.

Posture

Poor posture is one of the most common reasons why people come in and see us. If you’re not standing or sitting properly, then you can be adding extra burden to your neck and back. Another thing on the posture front is to check your sleeping posture. We spend a third of our lives asleep, and sleeping posture is as important as regular posture.

Fighting the Compression

As we work or play, our spine is slowly compressing, so one way of combating this is to do things to decompress your back. Things like foam rollers, inversion tables and simply stretching your neck back all can help.

Watching the Pounds

Having a good diet and regular exercise is good for keeping the weight down and has many health benefits. Being of proper weight also helps your spine as being overweight can also increase the burden on it and compress it.

Chiropractic Care

And of course, chiropractic care. We love helping patients out of pain and also helping patients remain out of pain. Chiropractic treatments focus on decompressing the spine and allowing proper function again.

All of the above, or a combination of them will help to improve your back and give it the loving it needs. Chiropractic care is one of the best treatments for back related issues and our care also includes helping you to set the right posture, to do stretching exercises and to get your back working as it should.

If you have any questions about the above, please come in and see us. We are walk in friendly and love to help. We’ve helped thousands of patients to love their backs over the years and enable them to lead the lives they want. We can help you too.
