Stroke Prevention How to Prevent

We should always note symptoms prior to a doctor visit; whether we forget, don’t have time, or simply don’t want to, we often forget to do this. More often than not the subtle symptoms can prevent major conditions , and this is often the case when it comes to a stroke. There are two types of strokes which are ischemic and hemorhagic. Ruptured aneurysm or leaks in the arteries lead to the later while blood clots can lead to an ischemic stroke. Both can lead to nervous system failure, and require immediate emergency care.

The vertebral-basilar insufficiency (VBI) stroke is an issue which is far less common and hardly ever discussed. It is caused by VAD, it is so rare that it only occurs in .75 to 1.12 in every 100,000 people. It typically occurs to individuals 30 to 50 years of age, and symptoms are uncommonly reported. Headache, neck pain, and other subtle symptoms and problems such as short term blurred vision, however can be signs of a VBI stroke. Sudden or different headaches, which are often accompanied by other symptoms which aren’t common, are a common sign of this type of stroke.

One study noted a 30 year old female with headache and sudden loss of vision in her left eye. History of migraines during menstruation were often noted with this patient. She visited her chiropractor following right side neck pain and visual disturbance. The change (infrequent headaches) were noted by her chiropractor and he ordered an MRA and MRI which confirmed this VBI stroke. He symptoms were soon after resolved, and VBI was properly treated causing no further issues to her health.

Neck pain and headaches are common for those seeking chiropractic care; if the proper alignment hadn’t been done, the VAD wouldn’t be resolved, which could have led to the patient suffering from a stroke. Neck pain and headaches have also been shown to be commonly related to VAD sufferers, and found in patients visiting their chiropractor for routine care. Although VAD is uncommon, a visit to Your local Lacey Olympia WA Chiropractor Dr David Warwick near Seattle Tacoma WA is advised, in helping potentially find this, and other conditions, and help combat more serious medical concerns down the road. Proper care and attention are not only preventive but are also a good way to discover certain health risks and concerns which aren’t accompanied by symptoms, so patients typically don’t discuss them with their doctor.
