What to do About Shoulder Pain Says Lacey Olympia Chiropractor

by | Aug 30, 2018 | Back Pain

Shoulder and upper arm pain is an extremely common reason why patients visit doctors. About 7.5 million visits are made each year, to  be exact. Shoulder pain is also the third most common reason after neck and back pain to visit the chiropractors like us in Lacey Olympia. Why these injuries so frequently seen in patients?

There is actually a simple answer to this question: anatomy. There are the basic three joints that make the shoulder which are the scapulothoracic joint, the glenohumeral joint, and the acromioclavicular joint. These three work together to complete many daily tasks, like swinging a golf club or reaching high heights. The reason that one is more subject to an injury is because the shoulder favors mobility over stability. The question that remains is how can we prevent shoulder injuries from occurring?

Our Lacey Olympia chiropractor suggests that the most important thing a person can do to prevent shoulder injuries is simply to think before acting. It sounds very easy, but can be difficult at times when something needs to be done or if you’re doing something that requires a lot of movement. It could be lifting something, stretching awkwardly, or any other manner of similar things. Next time you’re in a situation like this, ask for a helping hand, or think of other ways you can complete this task. Always make sure to keep proper form, and use your core. All of these combined together can help prevent shoulder injuries.

Some frequently seen shoulder conditions include, inflammation (bursitis and tendinitis), instability (“sloppy” joints), arthritis (bone/cartilage injury/wear), fracture, and nerve injuries. Injuries can be from something in specific that you know you’ve done, or it can be something that happened over time.

Shoulder pain may also be occuring because of another injury in the body, which many people do not think about. Often times a knee problem can add stress to the hip or vice versa, so think of it that way. Lacey Olympia chiropractor will not only treat your shoulder, but we will analyze the whole body to make certain that there is no other area that is causing stress to the shoulder. Lacey Olympia chiropractor may also issue you to eat certain foods or take vitamins to help reduce inflammation and speed your recovery.
