What is chiropractic care good for? Well, back and neck pain for a start. It’s great for whiplash injuries too and keeping the spine in check. But it also has other positive aspects too in that it can help with many other healthcare issues. The whole idea of chiropractic is that good health emanates from the spine if it is treated appropriately.
So what else can chiropractic care help with?
Believe it or not, GERD is one such thing chiropractic may help. You see, when we chew, and swallow, it goes through the esophageal sphincter which is the muscle that allows food through to the stomach but then closes to prevent acids from coming up. It’s almost like a one way valve. As many as 60 million Americans may experience GERD at some point in their lives, some on a daily basis.
This esophageal sphincter gets weak over time and doesn’t operate as effectively as it may have in the past and this results in GERD like symptoms such as chest pain, acidic taste in the mouth, heart burn and more. If left unchecked, it can inflame the esophagus, cause pain, damage and ultimately could lead to cancer or other problems such as hiatal hernias and more.
So, with that said, can chiropractic treatment help with this?
A study undertaken in 2016 looked at 22 adults who were suffering with GERD like symptoms for a minimum of 24 months. They all undertook chiropractic adjustments of the spine, cervical adjustments, traction, posture correction and other such therapies. All but 2 of the participants experienced an improvement in their conditions and many continued treatment because of the benefits they experienced.
So if you or someone you know suffers with GERD, why not try other ways to control and help it. Chiropractic care may be just the thing for it. If it isn’t, you should at least experience the other benefits of chiropractic care that has on your body.
