How Can I Fix a Kink in My Neck?

by | Aug 7, 2019 | Neck Pain

A kink in the neck, or as sometimes called, wry neck, can happen due to sleeping in a draft, poor posture or even having a cold or the flu. While the true cause of the condition isn’t known, there is somethings you can do about it. Typically the condition can last up to 6 weeks if left untreated, but obviously in an ideal world, you’d want it treated well before then.

So how can I fix a kink in my neck?

First of all you can apply ice to the area. Ice acts as a kind of decompression action which is what we want to do. Keep an ice pack on the area for no longer than 20 minutes at a time and you can do this a few times a day.

Simple stretching exercises can also help with a kink in the neck, but be careful not to over stretch and if it becomes too painful, stop what you are doing. Laying on your back on your bed and have your neck tilted back over it may also help. Do this for several minutes to help stretch your neck out.

Simple and gentle massaging may also help reduce your discomfort.

Ultimately though, while the above may help, getting professional treatment is the best way. At Warwick Chiropractic we can examine you and then apply certain chiropractic adjustments to your neck. We can traction, perform cervical adjustments and these should help improve your pain. While it may take up to 6 weeks to heal naturally, with a few adjustments we would be confident in having it under control in under a week. But of course, it depends on severity and your own case.

So try the above first, if you don’t get any joy there, come in and see us because we do this all the time and help people out of pain.I hope this answers the question how can I fix a kink in my neck well.
